Now that you have finished building the house, send one of the villagers to the berries so that you have a two villagers picking berries now. If he is still carrying wood, have him stop by the town center to unload. Then send your other villager to continue chopping wood. A fourth villager is probably ready, so send him to the berries. Continue sending villagers to the berries until you have a total of about six to eight, then you will start sending them to chop wood.

Keep the villagers coming, but don't forget to build houses as well. Definitely by the time your 7th villager has popped out, you will need to build another house. I usually watch the wood until it gets back to 30 again and build the additional house then.

In this map, I decide to swtich over to hunting, since there are some nice elephats nearby and because hunting is supposed to be quicker than gathering. I make sure my berry pickers drop off what they're carrying in the town center then I send them to get the elephant. In general when hunting, try to lure the elephants as close as you can to where you're going to drop off the meat, again to save time. Having to walk far distances each trip will add up very quickly.

At this point, you are still making villagers, and sending them to chop down nearby trees. When I get close to reaching 120 wood, I make a decision whether I need to build a storage pit first, or a granary. In this case I have plenty of food nearby my town center but not as much wood. I look for the perfect spot to build a storage pit. Aim to build it not only near wood, but also some other resources to sort of kill two birds with one stone.

Now you can send your villagers to the storage pit to chop more wood. Also, don't forget to watch the villagers chopping near your town center, especially if wood is sparse. If they start wandering too far, send them to the storage pit instead. The next thing you will want to be thinking about is advancing. In order to advance from the Stone age into the Tool age, you will need 500 food and 2 Stone Age buildings. Your storage pit already counts as one, so you need one more. You can build either a granary or a barracks. Sometimes if I have plenty of food, like in this particular map, I will choose to build the barracks. The decision is up to you according to what you need. Once you have 500 food, you are good to go. Click on the town center and the button to advance should be available now, click it and prepare to expand your empire.

As for the number of villagers you have by the time you are advancing, that will probably be up to you. Some people recommend no more than sixteen, while others don't even think about it that way. The thing about making villagers is, they generally cost you 50 food each, so when you make a villager you are that much food away from your goal of 500 food. But the advantage of the villager is he will be able to bring in more resources for you. It's hard to find a perfect balance, but experiment with it and go with what works best for you.

Although RM may seem like a slow game, it is usually anything but slow. With all the things you have to keep track of, you should think and act fairly quickly. If you do not, you will find your opponent crushing you as you struggle to catch up, but by then it's already too late.
